Volunteer Items.
Circular Memorandum : The Hon. the Premier directs me to convey to the officers, non-commissioned officers, and men of the several Volunteer Corps who took part in the ceremony of laying the foundation stone of the new hospital today his high appreciation of the manner in which they responded to the invitation of the Hospital Board to be present on an occasion so auspicious. He is well aware that many members of the local corps, as well as their comrades from a distance, attended at great personal inconvenience to testify to their interest in, and sympathy with an institution of such importadce to the community at large, and he recognises with pleasure the bond of unity existing between the citizens of Wanganui and her citizen soldiers. Stuart Newall, Lieut-Col. commanding the District. District Office, Wanganui, March 14, 1895.
