Pohangina Items.

The forfeited sections in the Small Farm Homestead Blocks will be offered for public competition at Wellington during the month of May. The Commissioner of Crown Lands, when at Ashurst on March Bth, said that lithograph plans of the sections would be obtainable at the district Post Offices. The Pohangina Council are desirous of doing everything in their power to forward the interests of their county. The subsidies granted to the telephone lines will enable them to be started. It is most likely the revenue will soon be sufficient for them to run alone. The Secretary of the Onslow Association has some plans oi the Block to distribute, if required. The milk supply at the Pohangina Cheese Factory is raising rapidly, although the season is advancing. There are several new suppliers who more than make up the loss in quantity of the first comers. I hear that members of the Marton No. 5 Association are to petition for another block of land, as the one allotted them is unfit for 200 acre settlements. The Onslow made the same request, but was informed there was no more land available for Small Farm Associations, and the balance of the Waimarino Block was of too high an elevation. The members will have an opportunity next May to get one of the forfeited sections on the same terms as their Association rules embrace. The sections are, many of them, fairly good, and have been thrown up because their original holders had altered their, arrrngements. Some, no doubt, are too rough for small holdings. However, it is expected there will be many applications. It is stated on good authority that a 6 foot track will be opened all the way up the road to the Salisbury Block for the convenience of the settlers there. The upper fords are very bad and boulders large, so that this is a most welcome thing to have. — Times' Correspondent. —
