♦- Mr Fred Pirani, M.H.R., waited on the Premier and Minister of Lands on their arrival by the midday traiu yesterday, in regard to several matters affecting the district. POHANGINA VALLEY KOAD. Mr Firam pointed out to Mr McKeozie that the £325 voted for the road through the totara reoarve at Pohangina had not been sufficient for the work, and asked that £100 should be voted out of unauthorised . expenditure so that the road could be opened up before tho winter set in. Mr McKenzie promised that the request should be granted, as the road opened up a large totara reserve which could be sold. APITI BRIDGE, Mr Pirani asked the Premier if the Government would supply two iron cylinders for the Apiti Bridge, as the vote on the estimate? would not pay a third of the cost, and as the bed of the river was papa rock, involving extra expense. Mr Seddon promised that if the cylinders in question were in possession of the Government he would obtain them for the Apiti Bridge. , . AORAJ.GI DRAINAGE. Mr Pirani asked the Premier if the Government would assist the Aorangi Drainage Board in making . a cut to alter the channel of the Manawatu river Bear Oroua bridge, as the result would be to lessen the danger to the railway from floods as well as to pro. tect the outlet for the drainage of the district. Mr Seddon replied that the departmental report was to the effect tbat the proposed work would neither benefit uor injure the railway, and while there was no objection to the work, there could be no reason for the; Railway Department contributing towards it. — Standard.
