FRANCE AND AMERICA. THE TROUBLE IN SWITZERLAND (Per Press Association.) London. March 9. An Imperial League is being formed to arrange a system of mutual trade relations between Great Britain and the colonies, irfir J. Luboock, Sir Ohas T»pper, Sir W. B. Percivnl, the Duke of Devonshire, and the Marquis of Lome support the proposal. The Marquis of Queensberry has been committed tor trial ou a charge of libeling Oscar Wilde. Lord Richard Neville, son of the Marquis of Abergavenny, met with a serious accident when hunting at Trentharu Hill. His horse fell and rolled over him, severely injuring his back. He is progressing favorably. New York, March 9. Negotiations are being concluded here whereby Russia, Japan and Hawaii join with the United States Company in laying a cable from San Francisco to Hawaii Japan, and the French Islands in the Pacific. St. Johns, March 9. Newfoundland delegates proceed to Ottawa shortly to arrange the Union with the Dominion. Washington, March 9. The French prohibition of the United States meat imports, on the ground of alleged disease, is causing some irritation, and threats are being made of retaliation on French wines. Pretoria, March 9. A Transvaal force of burghers, 1000 strong, is encamped on the Swaziland border, and has summoned the King of the latter territory to be installed as paraamount chief or otherwise be deposed.
