(Per Press Association.) Wellington, February 25. Mr Dunlop, of the Wairarapa fame, is to take the place of Mr J. Wacall, second engineer of the Rotokino, now lying in the hospital from the injuries received on the vessel receutly. Mr F. J Gale was elected Chairman of the Board. The Town Hall at Eketahuna was destroyed by fire this morning. Insurances £200, South British ; £100, Commercial Union. Christchurch, Feb. 26. At a public meeting, convened by the Mayor, at Rangiora last night, motions were carried, ■' Thut in view of the ever recurring unemployed difficulty this meeting would impress on the Minister of Lands the importance of at once securing land for settlement in this district and of sub dividing it into small allotments." " That this meeting is of opinion that land should be secured in close proximity to tbe borough and not to be less than five acres for each allotment " Auckland, February 26. H.MS, Royalist has reached the rendezvous of the squadron off Tiritere, and is going through gun practice. A prisoner named Herman Gray, serving a life sentence, was reduced from the first grade to the second at the police court, for wounding himself by opening a vein. Subscriptioos are being raised for the relief of the Fijian, sufferers by the late hurricane. £100 has already been raised besides contributions in kind. One firm gave a ton of biscuits.
