Admiral Bridge leaves Hobart with the Orlaudo within a few days for Auckland where the flagship will be joined by the Katoomba, Royalist, Ringdove and Karrakatta. After a series of squadron movements have been carried out in the Hauraki Gulf, the Admiral will make an official landing at Auckland, and will afterwards visit Wellington and some of the southern ports. Mrs Gray has been sentenced to six months' imprisoumontfor killing the girl Turner by throwing a table-knife at her. Melbourne, February 20. The Colonial Treasurer has decided to further reduce the rates of interest on deposits in the Government and Post Office Savings Banks to 2i per cent on deposits up to £'100, and 2 per cent up to .£250. No interest will be allowed on deposits above the latter amount. The Cabinet has considered the question of the arrears in the selectors' rents which are stated to aggregate threequarters of a million, and has decided that unless those whose payments for three years and upwards are overdue come to some arrangement for a gradual reduction of the debt, the whole or portion of their holdings will be forfeited.
