Per Press Association.) i Wellington, Feb. 20. The Chinese missionary, Thos. Chang Luke by name, is now in Wellington on a proselytizing mission. He became a Christian 12 years ago and has laboured in Victoria for 5 years on behalf of the Presbyterian Church. Ellen Walker, wife of Thomas Walker, secondhand dealer, of Manners Btreet, threw herself off the breastwork this morning and was drowned. Deceased was of intemperate habits and had not been home for some days. It is stated that in consequence of the removal of the headquarters of the N.Z. L. and M.A. Company to Wellington, several of the leading firms in Auckland have resolved to open branches in Wellington for the convenience of their clients. Auckland, February 20. J. C. Rankin, brought up on remand on a charge of having forged the signature of Tamwai in November last at Eaikohe to an advance note on the Loan and Mercantile Agency, wan remanded to Kawakawa. The Devenport Ferry Company declared a dividend oi ten per cent. Nothing is yet known in Auckland as to the removal of the Loan and Mercantile Company's head-quarters to Wellington. In the Patoka poison, ing case, John Rest all being charged with attempting to poison ten station hands, the jury were locked np all night, and not agreeing were discharged this morning. Prisoner was remanded to next session.
