Messrs Adsett and Son los.fc a valuable horse on Wednesday last. It was work ing for some time and was taken bad and within six hours was dead The cause of death was ascertained on examination to be the result of ' bots ' a large number of which were found in the animal's stomach, It behoves eyeryqne to watgh their horses carefully now to guard agaipst this pest. We have had several heavy storms lately and while writing there is every prospect of more, The rain is very acceptable, as everything was drying up. Our schoolmaster and family are temporarily located in the school room so that the contractors can remove the residedce to the township. I am glad to see that the estimates are out for the roads, &c, in the Fohangina Riding. By joining with the ratepayers in the other parts of the riding as 'proposed the township ratepayers will not have so large a rate to pay as they would if they had a separate loan. A meeting is to be held on the 2nd February to consider the proposal, whqn it is hoped all ratepayers will roll up and support the proposals.'
