An Important Judgment.

Q (Per Press Association). Wellington, December 22 A judgment was given by Mr Martin S.M. to day in a case of interest to natives and those concerned in native lands. F. London hud sued Mere Te Puni lor the return of £11, being her share of a sum of £'44 paid by the plain till as duty assessed under the Deceased Persons Duties Act, 1881. The circumstances were that in 1881, defendant became by virtue of a succession order issued out of the native Land Court entitled with other natives to a parcel of land at Petone. Her interest was an undivided one -fourth ahare. Defendant and others subsequently sold another one-fourth interest in the land to plaintiff, who on going to registrar bis title found that the duty claimed by the Stamp Office on the succession order had not been paid up. He eventually paid the whole auionut, and now sued for de fendants share. His Worship gave judg inent in equity and good conscience for the amount claimed with costs.
