An official visit was made on Saturday last to Tikorea, a settlement eight miles below Campbelltown, by Mr J. H. Stevens, postmaster at Feilding, to report on the feasability of opening a post office there. A well informed financier says that tho people who arc making the biggest fuss about tbe call made by tho Bank of New Zealand are those who have to pay the least. Besides, he remarked, the money paid will prove a valuable asset, and, after all, it is really taking it out of one pocket and putting it in another. Tho Rev. J. McNeill remarked, during the delivery of his discourse at Palmerstou on Sunday evening last, that he noticed in New Zoaland the young men were very courageous for anything iv the shape of " devilment," especially when a few of them were together, but it was a rare thing to see ono "stand forth " for the right. Mr D. Laiug's tender for carrying tho mail between Birmingham and Apiti has been accepted by the Postal Department. After the New Year there will be a tri-weekby service, the coach leaving Apiti on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday mornings at 7 a.m., returniug Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons, leaving Birmingham at 3 o'clock. The Palmerston North aud Wairarapa papers declare that this Christmas will be the dullest on record. Well, there is a remedy, which is : let those who can do so, pay all the small accounts they owe, and a flood of brightness will be shed over the laud that will make tho eyes of old Father Christmas glisten with pleasure at the amount of real happiness conferred by this simple means.
