The Feilding Star. Oroua & Kiwitea Counties Gazette. Published Daily. TUESDAY, DEC. 18, 1894. THE HALF- HOLIDAY.
In connection with the weekly halfholiday, which has to be fixed by the Borough Council before the end of January, we trust for the benefit of
all parties that Feilding and Palmerston North will adopt the same day We are informed by the Standard that there is a feeling in Palmerston in favor of Saturday as against the present half-holiday, but in order to thoroughly ventilate the subject the Mayor of that town proposes to hold a public meeting at an early date. We have been aware for some time that in Feilding many persona, including employers and employes, were also in favor of a change, one of the chief reasons advanced being that young men who had been hard at work up to a late hour on Saturday night were physically incapable from fatigue of availing themselves of opportunities of attending places of worship on Sunday morning. Several correspondents in the Wellington and Dunedin papers have expressed themselves to the same effect. We have no doubt the Mayor of Feilding will also call a public meeting to discuss the question here.
