In Bankruptcy.
ESTATE OF C. A. KENDRICK. A meeting of creditors in the bank* rupt estate of 0. A. Kendrick, was held in the Courthouse, yesterday afternoon. The D.0.A., Mr G. J. Scott, presided. The creditors present or represented were— Messrs Gorton and Son (who also represented Ellis Bros, and Valder, Hogg Bros, and Brecuin, and Kilpatrick), and Kirfcon and Curtis. The debtor, with his solicitor, Mr L. E. Reade, was also present. Mr Sandilands appeared as solicitor for Messrs Gorton and Son, on whose petition debtor was adjudicated bankrupt. The debtor was examined at length by Colonel Gorton as to his business transactions. In examination it was elicited that on June 29th, 1894, debtor purchased 150 sheep from Messrs Gorton and Son, for which he gave a bill for £85; he got an advance of £25 from Barraud and Abraham on the wool ; he sold the sheep to Standon for £80, £80 of this money being paid into the Colonial Bank, £15 to Bramwell Bros., £6 10s for a cow, and £7 for a horse both of which were afterwards seized for rent ; in September he bought 26 head of - cattle from Abraham and Williams, to whom he gave a three months' bill, and took delivery of the cattle ; Gortc.n and Son's bill was dishonored ; when Mr N. Gorton spoke to debtor about it, he was told the cattle were entered for sale in Mr Can's next sale ; the day previous to Mr Carr's sale, Mr Jackson, representing Messrs Abraham and Williams, went up to the farm occupied by debtor, mustered the cattle, and gave debtor back his bill ; debtor was married in July, and denied going for a trip with the money advanced by Messrs Barraud and Abraham ; after he bought the sheep found he was 'in difficulties ; bought the cattle after this. Proposed by Mr E. Gorton (Colonel) and seconded by Mr E. Gorton (as proxy for Messrs Hogg Bros, and Brechin), That a public examination of debtor is necessary. — Carried. Proposed by Mr E. Gorton, seconded by Mr E. Gorton (proxy for Messrs Hogg Bros, and Brechin), That the costs of making debtor bankrupt be charged to the estate.— Carried. Proposed by Mr E. Gorton, seconded by Mr E. Gorton (proxy for Messrs Hogg Bros, and Brechin), That, with reference to the 26 head of cattle which were seized by Messrs Abraham and Williams in October, steps be taken to recover same or their value.— Carried. The meeting then adjourned.
