Mr Isherwood informs us ho will bo unable to play at the concert ou Friday next as proposed, as he has not been allowed sufficient time to work up the piano parts. The volley and independent firing will take place at the rifle range ou Thursday morning at fivo o'clock. A Feilding geutloman when in Palmerston yesterday had an interview with Mr Edwards, proprietor of tho swimming baths there, who stated he would gladly visit Feilding if invited by the Borough Council, to give his opinion on the subject of a water supply. Mr Edwards has had considerable experience in this kind of work, and has made it a special study. According to Zimmerman, " Not one cyclist in a thousand pedals properly ; the pressure of tho foot, instead of being relaxed at tbe bottom of the stroke, is continued nearly the whole of the circuit of the pedal and consequently the result obtained is quite out of proportion with the exertion expended." It is to his correct style of pedalling ho ascribes his phenomenal success. Mr J. Smith, who has tho contract for sinking a well for the Fire Brigado in Grey street, is pushing on with his work, and expects to have the job finished by to-morrow morning. The well, which is 10ft iv diameter, has to be sunk to a depth of 18ft, and in order to keep tbo water down Mr Smith has a night as well as a day shift on, and the work will be carried ou continuously until the contract is finished. Tho London Weekly Timos of Friday, tho 26th October, 1894, says :— The marriage of the Bishop- dosignato of Wellington, New Zealand, the Rev. F. Wallis, and Miss Margaret Williams, second daughter of Mr Robert Williams, banker, of London and Bridehead, Dorset, was solemnised at the Parish Church of Little Bredy, Dorset, on Tuesday. Tho officiating clergy were the Bishop of Salisbury, Bishop Selwyn, and other Church dignitaries. Tho best man was Mr C. E. Broughtou. During the time that tho town was being canvassed recently for subscriptious in aid of the funds of the local Fire Brigade, Mr C. L. Maclean kindly uudcrtook to get up a concert, tho proceeds of which would go towards augmenting tbe said fund. With this view Mr Maclean has been working assiduously iv procuring some of the best talent in the district to assist at the concert, which is to eventuate on Friday next, aud the result will be, wo feel sure, that one of the best local concerts which has yet been given in Feilding will be the forthcomiug one. The programme will appear on Thursday. A well attended meeting of the Band of Hope was held in the Temperance Hall last evening, Mr W. G. Shearer presiding. A leugthy and interesting programino was gone through, the items contributed being— Vocal duet, Mrs J. C. Thompson and Miss Brittain ; song, Miss Mackenzie; duet, Misses Robertßon and Ranger : rccitatious, Millie Carthew, Leslie Thompson, Sarah Hodge, Lily Thompson, Maud Wiußlaclc, Edward Toy, Jauet Bray, Stanley Shearer ; violin duet, Miss Ross and Mr Wildbore ; piano duet, Misses Valeutiuo and Mackenzie ; piano duct, Misses Valentino and Brandt.

Tho meeting of the Feildiug Committee of the Wairarapa Relief Fund, appoiuted to be held to-night at the Colonial Bank, has been postponed until next Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock at the same placo. Gentlemen who had lists forwarded to them are requested to return them forthwith to the Secretary and Treasurer, Mr A. C. Mathesou. There was not much interest taken in tho election of a Committee for the Campbell-street School District last night. Only eleven householders attended, two declinod nomination, and tho remaining nine fortunately were patriotic enough to sacrifice their comfort on the altar of their country. — Standard. The rumour has been circulated that the business of the Assets Company in New Zealand is to bo wholly managed by tho Hon. Walter Johnston and Mr Booth, of Wellington. The policy of tho management will be, it is said, to acquiro tlic best of the rural lauds of the company by the release of a corresponding amount of the Schroeder debentures. The Ceylon Observer, just to hand, contains comment upon tho Australian cable announcing the appointment of Mr Watson, as President of the Bank of New Zealand. Referring to Mr Watson's career in Ceylon the Observer says :— 11 We know he has won golden opinions by his shrewdness, ability, and conscientiousness ; and as a very old friend we can testify that his high character and talent have only met the reward they merited. A better appointment for the credit of the colony could not be made. Mrs M. Oliver, the popular and hospitable hostess of the Empire Hotel, inserts a Christmas advertisement to-day, in which she wishes oue and all the " compliments of the season." Visitors to Feildiug during the holidays will find capital accommodation at the Empire, while their every want will be studied, aud the capital table which is kept there is already widely known. Mrs Oliver keeps nothing but the very best brands of wines, spirts and ales in her house, and special importations have boen made for the coming festive season. At tho District Court, Palmerston N., held yesterday, His Honor Judge Kettle gave judgment in the case, Jackson v, Burno; claim, £'150, for alleged dam. ages. In this case, which was heard at the last sitting of the Court, defendant filed a set-off for rent amounting to £104. His Honor intimated that he intended to give judgment for the defendant for tho amount proved as owing for rent, less £10 for damages. Mr Fitzherbert appeared for plaintiff, but declined to argue the case, on tho ground that plaintiff had since been adjudicated a bankrupt. Mr Cooke appeared for tho defendant.
