From Secretary Palmerston North Hospital, applying for second instalment of levy for Hospital and Charitable Aid purposes (£lO2 12s 6d). The Chairman stated that he had heard rumours that the Colonists' Land and Loan Corporation claimed the roads in the Manchester Block, they not having been dedicated to the public, with the exception of Kimbolton and Makino roads. They (the Board) had not signed the transfer of the roads in the Stanway village as it was considered these roads were not the property of this body and, therefore, the legality of their signing the transfer was questionable. He thought the best thing they could do would be to leave them alone. He intended getting legal advice to ascertain their position with relation to roads in the district and to see whether the Road Board could not compel the Corporation to dedicate them to the public. Resolved, That tbe name of F. S. Ellerm be placed on the rate book for 50A acres of section 90 G. and C. in place of E. W. Roots and the name of L. C. Ellerm for 128 acres of section 90 G. and C. in place of E. W. Roots as requested. Dowden be accepted for Penelope road. The tenders for bridge over the Makino on Forlong's road was declined. The Engineer reported that he had inspected the Kiwitea stream when it had crossed Forlong's road. He said it would be a big job to do anything towards making it passable. He suggested a deviation of the road through Mr Phillips' property, which would take about four acres. Mr Phillips was willing to dispose of the laud required at £12 an acre and do the fencing for 12s a chain. There would be about 30 chains of formation. Proposed by Mr Wheeler, seconded by Mr Purkiss, That Messrs Lethbridge, Booth and the mover be appointed to inspect the damage done by the Kiwitea on Forlong's road, discuss the same with the Engineer and decide upon what shall be done, meeting to take place on Tuesday morning, 4th inst. — Carried.
