The Rifle Range.

We noticed a paragraph in the JVanga* nui Herald of Friday which points out that : — " It may not be generally understood that the rifle range is for the use of Volunteers fox target practice, and when not so in use it is private property. The remark is here made because a number of larrikins seem to think that they hold a mortgage over the place and do not hesitate to make their presence felt. Very appropriately, too, they are generally accompanied by a lot of curs of dogs, who commit all sorts of depredations. A Police Court case would probably put a damper on such expeditious." This would apply equally to the Feilding range. A tribe of youngsters make a point of assembly at the butts, where they break or otherwise injure everything they pan lay their hands on, besides committing other offences to which we need not make further reference. No man in Foilding has displayed so much personal generosity and public spirit as Mr Lethbxidgo in allowing his private property to be used by the public, and in common gratitude parents and guardians surely ought to endeavor to so control those under their charge as to prevent wilful injury being done where it shoud be a duty and pleasure to prevent it. If it were pointed out to the offenders by their seniors the base ingratitude of which they are guilty, we really believe that in plaoe of these lads being a common nuisance, they would do their best to preserve instead of damaging property.
