A Wise Proposal.

(Per Press Association.) Wellington, November 16. In accordance with his promise to a deputation from tho Shipmasters' Association, which waited upon him on Wednesday, to do what ho could to have as many of the lighthouses on the New Zealand coast connected with tho main telegraph system as he could, the Hon. Mr Ward has given instructions that tho lighthouso at Cape Campbell be connected by telephone with the nearest telegraph station. The erection of tho lino will be gone on with at once. It was stated that the work of connecting the lighthouses will require to bo douo gradually. As vessels are continually passing Cape Campbell he thinks it is very necessary tho lighthouse thorc should be connected, especially for eigualling purposes.
