Wanganui Education Board.

The Board resumed its sittings yesterday morning, there being present Messrs J. Notniau (chairman), Sansoii, Bridge, Baker, Fry, Carson, Hurley, and Rev. John Rosa. Feildiug— Letter applying for certain repairs ; referred to tho carpenter. Letter from Mr H. L. Sherwill, re Aratiki site, and cnclosiug account for certain expenses incurred ; lcttor received and account passed. Pohaugina — Letter from committee poiuting out the necessity for the onlargemeut of tho school ;' reply to be sent that during the vacation, when the school is removed, accommodation will be provided for another thirty, tho architect to bo requested to call for tenders for the removal and enlargement of the building. Members' Expenses— Letter from the department requesting a return showing tho travelling expenses, &c, of members of tho Board ; letter received. Ashurst Letter from Mr A. Buckler, teacher, making certain explanations as requested by the Board ; letter received. Colytou — Letter from committee re tank aud repairs ; matter to be attended to by carpenter. Kapuni — Letter from Committee asking for refund for pump ; refund granted. Upper Tutaenui — Letter from teacher asking why examination was scrambled through in one day, while in Birmingham, with less pupils, two days were taken. Tho letter had been referred to Mr Biudon for explanation, and in reply he bad stated that all tho assertions were untrue, the examination not having been scrambled through and Birmingham not having less children than Upper Tntaenui. Resolved, That the Inspector's reply be forwarded to the teacher. Palmerston North.— Letter from Committee asking by what authority the Inspector had given certain holidays without consulting the Committee. Tho Inspector had explained that it was customary in this district to grant what were called " Inspector's holidays." This had been done for years, and the Chairman of the Committee must have been conversant with the custom. Resolved to inform Committee of explanation, with the intimation that no slight was intended. Building Grant— Circular from Department stating tho amount of £3350 had been allocated for the Wanganui Board for building purposes. Leave of Absence - Leave of absence was granted to the following applicants, subject to the approval of Committees, for tho purpose of attendiug matricu* lation examination t M. Staffon, Marton ; J. C. Warue, Nikau ; Thomas Innes, Upper Taonui ; A. H. Powell, Porewa ; and E. Watts, College street, Palmerston N. Apiti — Letter from Mr Fisher, re clearing line on section ; resolved to reply that Board cannot offer any other terms. Makiuo.— Letter from committee applying for repairs ; referred to the carpentor. Ashurst.— Letter from Mr A. Buckler, teacher, asking the Board whether subordinate teachers were permitted by the Board to address complaints against their superiors, through Chairmen of Committees, to the Board without the knowledge of the Board ; resolved that Mr Buckler be informed that in the event of a complaint being made against him steps will bo taken to provide him with a copy. To Roti - The report of tho Committee (Messrs Bridge and Hurloy) on tho roquirenients of this school was read, and it was resolved that tenders be called for tho erection of a residence and the necessary additions, the Executive to open and accept tenders as soon as possible. Kapcmga Mr William Floyd's tender was accepted for Kaponga School. Kobi— Messrs McFarlane and Dunn's tender was accepted for this school. Birmingham (additions to school). — Mr W. Banks' tender accepted. Bunuythorpe (residence). — Messrs Hubner Bros.' tender accepted. Painting.— Mr Bridge moved that tho clerk prepare a statement of buildings reported on by the inspectors as requiring painting, and that members of the Board be requested to report on the work required in their respective districts. Inspectors' report. — Tho Board then went into committee to consider inspectors' reports. — Chronicle.
