LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, October 17. The Council met at 2.80, The Trustees Act Amendment Bill passed its final stages. The TongariroJNational Park Bill was read a second time. On the motion for the second reading of the Ministerial Residences Sale Bill, the Hon Shrimski moved as an amendment that the Bill be read a second time three months hence. — After a short discussion the amendment was carried by 21 to 13, and the Bill thus thrown out. The Native Land Court Bill and Mining Companies Bill passed through committee without material alteration, and were read a third time and passed. The Council rose at 5.80. p.m. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. The House met at 2.30. In the House this afternoon the Bill for a bonus on the export of coal was thrown out by 31 to 20. The Post and Telegraph Bill was amended by placing the Commissioner of Taxes on the Appeal Board instead of the Secretary of the Department, and reduced the maximum salary of the Assistant Secretary and Inspector to £600. The Fisheries Bill and the Property Tax Assessment Amendment passed through Committee with slight amendments. Mr Ward moved the second reading of the Land and Income Assessment Act Amendment Bill, and explained its provisions. The second reading was agreed to on the voices.
