Illness of the Ameer of Afghanistan.

ALARMING COMPLICATIONS. (Per Press Association). London, October 16. Owing to the illness of the Ameer the Viceroy of India will summon a special meeting of the Council at Simla to consider the situation. Lord Roberts advises English residents to leave Cabul, and take refuge at Peshawur. In the event of the Ameer's death he is of opinion there will be serious trouble, as his personal influence alone checked the fanatics in their hatred of foreigners. Lord Roberts foresees a quarrel over the succession, as some favour the elder son, Ulla, and others a Regency. The Times says that the Ameer has been suffering from Bright's disease for years. It will be necessary for the Indian Government to quickly declare its policy with regard to a successor.
