The Band Contest.
■ *» . (PKR PBESS ASSOCIAIONJ. Dunedin, Ootober 15. The Mayor presented the prizes won in the solos and quick step competitions at the Band contest this mornmg, but not those in the contest proper. The protests lodged against tiie Invercargill Garrison and Dunedin Naval Bonds — the former for playing two members who had not been actively associated with the band for three months prior to the contest, and the latter for including a member who rightly belonged to the Oamaru Garrison Band — were considered by the protest committee, consisting of representatives of competing bands not protesting or protested against, and both were sustained. The committee has served notice on the supervisor not to distribute the prize money and trophies, which will now probably form tho subject of legal proceedings. The Kaikorai Band received an enthusiastic welcome on retnrning from the competition to-night. The Dnnedin Garrison Band met the express and played the Timaru, Oamam, Dnnedin Navals and Engineers to the City Hotel, when tbe bands imited and played the contest quick step.
