BANK OF AUSTRALASIA. MEDITERRANEAN SQUADRON. PACIFIC CABLE ROUTE. THE EXPLORATION OF AFRICA. (Per Press Association) London, October 5. At a mooting of the shareholders of the Bank of Australasia Mr E. W. Hamilton, who presided, said that the liquid resources of the Bank amounted to the sum of £4,700,000, which was ample to meet all contingencies. There was a decline in profits owing to the inability of customers to meet engagement, and the low value of money. He expected to see a large rebound in the revenues of the colonies. H.M.S. Bramble will be stationed at Aden until relieved. Admiral Fitzroy has been directed to fix the headquarters of the Mediterranean Squadron during the winter at Gibraltar. It is understood Lord Jersey's report to the Imperial Government upon the Ottawa Conference, recommends that a survoy of the Pacific Cable route should be immediately undertaken by England. Count Ereitz and Baron Wolde, Russian explorers, with two hundred armed followers, are starting to explore the region in Eastern Africa between Lakes Stephenson, Rudolph, and the Nile.
