Musical Festival.

lbe programme of the New Zealand Musical Festival, to be held at the Opera House, Wellington, extending from October Ist to the sth, inclusive, has been issued, and copies may be obtained at the office of this paper. The principal works t to be performed are — The Spectre's , Bride, The Golden Legend, Israel in \ Egypt. The Creation, Lobgesang and Time's Great Monotone One evening , also will be devoted to a miscellaneous , programme of orchestral and vocal num- ; bers. The principal vocalists will be — Madame Fanny Bristowe, Mrs H. Bur i foot, Mr Charles Saunders, Mr A. H Gee . and Mr John Prouse, There are about ; 230 in the chorus, and over 60 instrumen \ talists — firr-t violins (10), second violins . (14). violas (4), violoncellos (2 , double i basses (5) flutes (3) oboes (2) cor. anglias , clarinet* (2) bass clarinet, bassoons (2), . horns (4) cornets (2) trombones (3) tympani, organ, besides bell, harps, bassdrums ; cymballs and triangle. Special excursion fares have been arranged by steamer and , train from different parts of tbe colony. By the courtesy of the premier, visitors may obtain orders to inspect the Goveru- , ment buildings and other institutions. ■ In addition visitors will hare access to , Museum, Public Library, Botanical Gar«)ons and other places of interest. Applications for seats, programmes or for any information respecting the festival will be attended to at once by Mr T. H. Hitchey, bon. sec, Imperial Chambers, Feathoritoa street, Wellington.
