Pohangina State School Concert
-\ "■s■" ••■ : —♦ and dance, in aid of the . funds of the above school, was given in the Pohangina township on Fridaj last. The concert was held in a building kindly lent by Mr Tibby, and wil ling hands soon converted it into a good concert room. A temporary stage was erected and tastefully decorated with evergreens. The audience, numbering from 150 to 200, cam« from far and wide — some from Feild ing. The Chairman of the School Committee, Mr Sinclair, briefly explained why additional funds were needed, and then the following programme was gone through : — Opening chorus, Messrs Goldfinch, Pearce, and J. Sinclair; song, Mr Pearce; a musical performance with a leaf was given by Mr Kannine ; song, Mrs Griffiths : song, Mr R. Sinclair ; song, Mr Tibby; violin solo, Mr Kendal ; song, Mr Goldfinch ; song, Mrs Culling ; recitation, Mr J. Sinclair ; song, Mr A. Fraser ; song, Mr Kannine ; song, Mrs Welsh. On all hands praise was given to those ladies and gentlemen who took part in the programme, but the palm was awarded to Mrs Walsh for her fine rendering of " The Song that Reached my Heart." The concert was finished about 10 p.m., when an adjournment was made to another building, placed at the disposal of the committee by Mr Adsett, where dancing was indulged in and kept up briskly till after 4 a.ni. Refreshments, supplied by the ladies of the township, were partaken of during the night, and were evidently appreciated. Mr N. Culling ably performed the duties of . M.G., while Messrs Kendal (violin) and A. Fraser (accordeon) kindly supplied the music for dancing. In conclusion, it may be said that this is th« most successful entertainment ever held in the district, and the committee and teacher may be congratulated on the success obtained.
