The American Tariff.

A REVIVAL IN BUSINESS. [PBB FKKSS ASSOCIATION. I London, August 15 American stocks in London and Berlin are rising largely. The Times correspondent snys it is estimated that the new tariff will produce £84,000,000, against £41,000,000 derived from the McKinley duties. The result is considered a victory for the Democratic Protectionists. Washington, August 16. The Bills providing for the placing of sugar, coal, and iron ore, on the free list have passed the second reading in the Senate without opposition. Mr Carlisle, Treasurer, states that the new tarifi will allow a surplus of 15,000,000 dollars, but if the Free List Bills are passed they will create a deficit of 21,000,000 dollars, chiefly owing to the free admission of sugar. Senator Harris has moved that the Bills be referred to the Finance Committee. A revival of business is already setting in.
