Sheep Returns.
Through the courtesy of Mrßlundell, stock inspector, we are enabled to give the results of the annual sheep returns, taksn up to the 30th April last. The figures are as follows:— For Bangittkei county— s,644 rams, 92, 145 wethers, 249,878 breeding ewes 30,016 non-breeding ewes, 149,133 lambs— total, 526,816. Oroua County —7,184 rams, 80,055 wethers, 307,776 breeding ewes, 24,807 non-breeding ewes, 197,747 lambs— total, 617,559. Manawatu County— 24o9 rams, 35,505 wethers, 97,380 breeding ewes, 25,046 non-breeding ewes, 62,722 lambV— total, 223,062. The increases for the year are : — Bangitikei County, 35324 ; Oroua, 96,889 ; Manawatu, 962. Total 1 33, 1 75. This is the first time the returns have been classified under the above headings, the figures in previous yean being given for male and female stock only. The extraordinary increase in the Oroua County is the chief feature of last year's returns, and^ affords a striking instance of the pro* gress made in this district during'flM period referred to.— Htandard.
