' ■ ... , ■ -»-^ —.■'.••. •-.;■., A meeting of Auckland and Wei. liagton members^ convened by Dr. Newman and air W. F. Maesey to consider the position of affairs con* carping the North Island Main Trunk Bail way was held on Friday. Sir Robert Stout, Dr. Newman and Messrs Duthie and Wilson were the Wellington members present, while those of Auckland comprised Messrs Mitchelson, Button, Orowther, Lain* and Massey. Messrs H. D. Cell and J. Stevens were unavoidably absent, and sent apologies. Dr Newman was voted to the chair. Sevetai Government supporters were absent. Besolutions were agreed to to the; effect that the moneys received from the sal* and lease of Native lands purchased by moneys taken out of the North Island Trunk Railway loan should be returned to the same fund, that' the available funds should be expended during the current year equally at both ends, and that as there is being annually set aside £250,000 oat of revenue for publio work purposes fair proportion of their amount should, be paid into the Public Works Fund No. 2 for the purpose* of the North Island Trunk Eailway. This does not commit members to cither-route as ths> railway is stilt a long way froprthe point of divergence.— Times. '. -
