FEILDING v. KEA KAHA. The final game of the season between senior teams iv the Manawatu Rugby Union was played on the Feilding ground on Saturday afterno'>D, between Feilding and Sea Kaha, resulting in a win for the former by three points to nil. The ; Feilding Club has thus established a splendid record for the season, winning 7 matches and having one drawn game to their credit, with not one point scored against them. The first portion of the game was somewhat slow and uninteresting, the teams being very evenly matched. The first noticeable run was made by Richards who carried the ball from Feilding's twenty-five to midfield, where Isherwood stopped him. Pode yin and Bell retaliated with good runs, to Robinson who collared the latter and cleverly prevented him passing to Isherwood. Robinson and Hewitt were playing well for their respective sides Feilding were being pressed, when Bryce, Greig, Sanson and Oldham made things merry and carried the ball to Bitchings who mulled, but Hewitt supported him and by a good kick sent the ball well down the field. Watts materially assisted in returning it to the visitors' twenty- fives, where Oldham got possession, and instead of making a dash for the coverted line, looked about for someone to pass to and was " smothered " by the opposing backs. His unselfish play is commendable, but there are times when a man should try to score himself. The next noticeable play was started by Sanson who, after a good run, passed to Broughton, who in turn transferred to Aitken, this player getting across the line, but the ball was called back as Broughton had passed forward. Shortly after Watts obtained a mark, but Brougbton's attempt to place a goal was a failure. Prender- j gast and Bell removed danger for a while and time was called without any score. The second spell was more interesting, some of the play beiug very fast. Watts followed up a long kick by Broughton, and kicked well down the field to the Koa Kaha full-back. Following up fust he was charging at the ball with Hitchings and had ho got it wuuld have scored, but Ishorwood obstructed him by getting in front of him, thus allowing Hitchings time to have a kick and save his side A mark was obtained by Bryce in the visitors' twenty-five 6, and Broughton was again unsuccessful in his attempt to place a goal. Feilding continuing in the aggressive Greig was near scoring, but Hitchings secured a force clown for his side. Wishart, Bell, Duncan, and Hewitt, were conspicuous for the visitors, while Oldham, Bryce, Greig, and the threequarters, were equal to the occasion for the local team. Richards made some good runs for Feilding, while Duncan and Isherwood made some splendid dodgy runs for the visitors. Watts was again following up a long kick when Isherwood repeated a weakness he ha« for getting between an opposing player and one on his own side who is going to take the ball. At this stage the game grew faster and A. Parr and Richards were being " fed " fairly well, while Duncan collared well for Kea Kaha. From a throw-in Sauson caught the ball and crossed the visitors' line, scoring a try. Broughton's kick failed to convert. This was a few minutes before time was called, and the game ended without • further score. For Feilding, IVLiore, at full-back, had very litte to do. The three-quarters were, however, kept busy. Richards made some very good runs, but hung on to the ball too much and did not pass soon enough. Robinson collars and kicks very well, but might do better if he kept closer to the scrums and ran closer to the men who are tackling, or passed sooner, so as to give the wings an opportunity to get away. A. Parr played a very safe game, but not so brilliant as formerly. R. Parr and W. Watts played half-back and " fed " the backs fairly well. The wing forwards were Broughton and Bob Whisker, who appeared in his old place for the first time this season. Neither of them were round the scrums >on to the opposing backs quick enough, as was very apparent when Duncan ou several occasions made some very clever runs before passing. The forwards, on the whole, are a good lot of grafters, Greig, Oldham, and Sanson, being the pick, while Aiiken loafs off side too much. They, however, allowed their opponents to break through the scrums too often. For Kea Kaha Hitchings at full back is too uncertain in taking the ball. At centre three-quarter Hewitt plays a very nice game, passing, collaring, and kicking well. Isherwood plays a tricky game on the wing and made some good dodgy runs, but he will bq the means of scores being obtained against his side if he does not modify his tricks. P. Giesen did not tak« the ball so well as he might have done, but in time will make a dangerous three-quarter. Duncan and Podevin are two good half-backs, especially the former. The forwards play a good loose game and support their backs well, and often came through the scrums with the ball in front of them. Fenton, Eyre, Prendergast, and Bell, are about the pick. Mr Matheson gave satisfaction as referee, and Messrs Strachan and Fake acted as line umpires for Feilding and Palmerston respectively.
