ALLEDGED CRUELTY to ANIMALS
TO THE F.DITOII OF THE STAR. Sir,— Through the medium of your valuable paper, I wish to state that in some country places where the Inspector of the Society for the " Prevention of Cruelty to Animals " does not visit, there are sometimes cases of the most outrageous cruelty to animals practiced. One in particular I will now draw your attention to. As I was passing along Mackay's line to-day, I saw a horse attached to a dray, standing in a farmer's paddock, and from its position I could see that it was stuck in a hole. Nobody was about, and I concluded that the man who had been using the dray had left it to get assistance ; but when passing some four or n'ye hours later, I saw the horse and dray still in the same position, and still no one about, I found out the unfortunate horse had been left there all day without food or water for punishment because the horse could not pull the dray out of the hole. I have never heard of such a shameful thing in my life. The owner of that horse ,evidently did not think that the dray was heavy, or the hole was deep, and instead of helping the horse out; left it there to punish it, because it could not pull it out. ]. am, «fee, A Lover of Dumb Animals.
