ORDINARY MEETING.
Mr Atkinson waited on the Council to object to the proposed expenditure on Paklhikura road and considered that the road should be completed from tbe end of the present formation and not patches done as proposed The thirds, he understood, were hypothecated for the purpose of paying interest on the loan and ha did not think it legitimate to expend them by doing patches of formation. Messrs C. Bull and Fitzherbert waited on the Council with reforence to the same matter ana pointed out that it would be of greater benefit to the majority of Bettlers do the work according to to the specifications as pr.iposid. Settlers on the Mangapipi and Pakihikura roads had applied to have their thirds spent as proposed and the deputation thought it; was best to spend the money in making a bridle track. Tbe chairman said, that he was resnou-
aibie lur the , topufiti w uiakt} poruot a of the road full width on' each side of the culverts, which would be permanent us it would be I r the general good oi seifc'. ere Th^tkird» bad not been hypothecated as , supposed by Mr Atkinson lie hoped to have the loan money to expend in about ax months. The deputation, on being informed the matter would be considered, withdrew: Proposed by Cr Jacob, seconded by Cr. Morton, That the Engineer be instructed to make a trial survey of the proposed^ road from P.rry's line to Mackay's line through Beaconsfield township, and that Cr Jones and the mover be appointed a committee to consult with the Engineer about said survey, and interview the owners of the land required for the road, and report at next meeting — < arried. In speaking to the resolution Cr Jacob said that it was stated the proposed deviation would be 71 chains longer than the road through " Mayfield," but this was not so- Thirty chains of Mackay's line should be taken off that distance which reduced the extra length of road to 41 chains and he thought, on farther examination of the roads in Beaconsfield township, that another seven chains of road could be saved by going down Wei-' lington street. There would be no dimin getting owners of land through which the deviation would go, to agree to sell- * ing ; it would be merely a matter of compensation. Resolved, That the following application for transfer on the rate roll be ! ap-\ proved :— Sections 28 and 28, block IH, Apiti, from Walsh Wrightson and "William Wrightson to A.
