Bullet-Proof Goat.

' Herr Dowe, a tailor of Manneheiro, has invented a bullet-proof coat, to be worn in actual warfare, and which weighs only 61b. It was teated at the Russian Lmbassy in Berlin on Wednesday, April 11th. The resistance was complete. In the first place f rifl'» was loaded nnd fired at a solid block of oak. which was pierced by the small steel-like bullets. Dowe then domed his bullet-proof coat, and offered himself as a target, The '- same rifle and similar projectiles were used. The rifle was the new one dow in use in Germany. While the rifle .was aimed at the tailor the spectators trembled with apprehension, but after the report rang out he was seen standing apparently unhurt. A second shot, fired directly at his heart, had as little effect as the first. He was absolutely unhurt, and both bullets were found imbedded in the bullet* proof coat. Theu commenced a second series of experiments, which were even more interesting than the first. A horse was covered with a bulletproof housing — for it is proposed that the cavalry of the future shall be protected equally with the infant^'. number of shots were fired in q u i c ic succession at the animal while it wnp standing. Ihe horse, a well tr a j n(> d cavalry mount, started slight! v a t the first shot, apparently however BCrtr . cely disturbed by the report o f thr> rifle. Then other shots nere fi r pd quickly os pos.-ible, almost striking in the same p? ace as befure, hut the horso continued eating as it nothin extraordinary was happening. As in Dowe, all bullets were found imbedded in the housing, but the hnrse it?elf was rnharmed. Dowe insists that a ship covered wiih the material would stand a pounding frcm anj number of war-ships without suffering aiiv iraterial damage. The new garment i* described as looking like ordinary army material, the resi3t : n ssetc -t substance being placed beneath a i outside the cloth. It is in the nsxt'.xrc of a breastnlate, and is fastened to the side buttons of a soldier's uniform.
