A Singular Will.
The barquo Lochnagar, now at Lyttelton, playeH an important part in ilk* performance of the peculiar obsequies ot a lately departed ship owner. One J of the owners of the vessel, Mr James ! Park, who was also a director of rho Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company, died recently, and when his will wa* read it was found that he had made several curious conditions for the disposal of his remains. He asked that his body should be cremated, and that the urn containing the ashes should be given to the captain of one of his vessels. When the vessel arrived off St, Catherine's Point, her head was to be turned due north, the urn smashed on the bows and the ashes scattered to the winds. The question as to whether or not the curious conditions of the will were carried out in their entirety, exercised several of the English papers at the time, and it was generally supposed that the lafter portion of the behest, was not complied with. Nevertheless the deceas ed gentleman's wishes were fulfilled. Captain G sson, of the barque Lochnagar, payed the final port in the completion of the exceedingly strange request, and when his vessel, on her recent voyage to New Zealand, arrived off St. Catherine's Point, duly pointed her head due north and himself smashed the urn containing the * &sbea on the bows of the vessel.
