Volunteer News.

The Manchester Rifles will parade for Government inspection this evening, in the Assembly Rooms. A challenge has been received from, tho Martou Royal Rifles to lire a match on the Feilding range on the 13fch iust. The season is rather advanced, the days beiug short, but the matter will probably be decided by the Shooting Committee this evening. We learn from the Standard that the Defence Department have refused to grant the annual capitation to the Manawatu Mounted Rifles on the ground that the corps was last year below the regulation strength in point of numbers. If the capitation be not granted, tho financial position of the corps will be seriously affected.
