Agricultural Returns.
The agricultural statistics collected in February last have been published in the Government Gazette. The total number of holdings over one acre in extent in the three counties mentioned below was as follows : — Oroua, 1,137 ; Manawatu, 280 ; Horo- ; whenua, 257. In Oroua 220 acres were . ■hown in wheat, and in Manawatu 328 acres were devoted to that crop. ! In the latter country 2281 acres were * in oats, and in Oroua there were 906 i acres, and in Horowhenua 51. The three counties between them only have 47 acres in barley. The acreage devoted f to potatoes was as follows : — Oroua, 373; Manawatu, 123; Horowhenua, 38. Manawatn has a long lead of the sister counties in the area down in turnips, the figures being— Manawatu, 3,230 acres : Oroua, 1,578 ; Horowhenua, 97. The total number of acres under crop was as follows : — Oroua, 4,093 ; Manawatu, 6,756 ; Horowhenua, 295. The area in sown grasses was : In grasses after having ( been broken vp — Oroua, 6,673 acres ; Manawatu, 24,572 j Horowhenua, < 1,015. Grass sown lands not previously ploughed — Oroua, 176,407 ; ' Manawatu, 100,094 ; Horowhenua, 41,758. The cocksfoot crop was estimated in Oroua at 1,141 bushels ; Manawatu, 480 ; and Horowhenua, 466 ; while the figures for rye were — , Oroua, 859 ; Manawatu, 200 ; Horowhenua, 502. In garden and orchard Oroua had 692 acres, Manawatu 214, and Horowhenua 133.
