+. There was a large muster on the Oval on Saturday. Sides were chosen and a good practice was indulged in, several of tbe players showing up prominently. On Saturday next the Senior Cup matches will commence. Feilding will play Birmingham, at Feilding, and the Pirates play the Kea Kahus at Palmerston. The Pirates football team journeyed to Woodville on Saturday afternoon and defeated the local team by 7 points to 3. Members of the Red Star Football Club will meet this evening. The following players will represent Feilding in the first Cup football match of the season, against Birmingham, to be played at Feilding on Saturday next : — Full-back, Broughton ; three quarters, Moore, Robinson, A. L. Parr ; halves, R, Parr, Strachan ; forwards, Matravers, J. and B. Whisker, Giesen, Martina, Johnston, Brabant, I. Watts, W. Watts. Emergencies, Lawton and Mingins. The match will commence at 3 o'clock sharp. Our Birmingham correspondent writes : The niemhers of the Birmingham Mountaineers' Football Club met last Saturday for a practice towards getting themselves fit for the fray against "Feilding next Saturday. There is a want of combination and a good deal of oft-side play is noticeable, but this is pardonable as a few are novices at the game, and doubtless a few more practices will remedy this fault. While playing three-€juarter bick Mr James Scrimegour sprained his ankle and, judging from the nature of the sprain, it is doubtful whether he will be able to don the jersey this season as one of our representatives. (Per Press Association.) uunedin, Mr-y 6. A special meeting of tha Rugby Union was held on Saturday night to consider the proposal to affiliate with the New Zealand Rugby Union. The motion in favor of affiliation was rejected by a majority of one, ihe voting being : - For, 23 ; against, 24. One delegate, after de daring against the proposal, declined to vote.
