GREAT DISTRESS EXISTING. (PEH PRESS ASSOCIATION). Wellington, This Day. Between 200 and 300 unemployed held a meeting ou the reclaimed land this morning, when a deputation was formed to wait on the Premier and the Mayor. Complaint was made that the Labour Bureau did not act fairly in giving men employment. Another speaker said the distress in Wellington was more accute than most people thought, and men were actually sleeping out in the railway carriages on the Manawatu Line and in other places Single men complained they could not get work anywhere and it appeared as if they were not to be allowed to live.
