Sir Robert Stout at Gisborne.
(PER PRESS ASSOCIATION). Gisborne, April 22. Sir Robert Stout, -who passed through Gisborne in tho Talune yesterday, was interviewed by a deputation of the Gisborne Temperance League and thanked for his efforts on behalf of the cause of temperance. In a chat over tho effect of the recent elections he advised the party to inculcate the temperance sentiment in the community by meetings and literature. He expressed the opinion that Parliament would sweep away a bare half majority, which was required at .the last elections, and said that if Government would not bring in a Bill to give the people a full expression of their wishes, he would do so himself. Sir Robert suggested that the licensing poll should be held simultaneously with and at same booths as general elections. He saw no reason that thsre should not be a poll on prohibi- ! tion whenever there was a general ! Parliamentary election. IE this was done thero would he a great saving in trouble and expanse, and there would not b« the difficulty in getting people to go to the poll.
