Loan and Mercantile Company.
[Per Press Association] . London, April 21. The examination of Directors of New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency ?oropanr was resumed to-dar. Mr Thomas Russell stated that Mr Elder had made an offer to the London Board of Directors to form a companj with a capital of £100,000 to purchase the Loan and Mercantile Cotnpauy pro spectUß as he believed thoy were a sound investment. A telegram was read which stated that be had wired, withholding his report knowing that Mr Kussoll was on the eye of arriving, and that the latter had full power to act. Judge Williams considered that the explanation was b just one. Mr Bussell dwelt at some length on the explanation and said that, while be was aot prepared to declare Mr Elder's telegram withholding the report was wrong, it was a strong atep to take | Mr Busflell referred to the succeis of the New Zealand Land Associaiiou in htadhog the business of the New Zeala/id Loan and Mercantile Companj, which he said had increased since the suspension of the Company.
