Wanganui Education Board.

The monthly meeting of the Education Board was resumed yesterday. Present — Messrs Notman (in the chair), Bridge, Carson, Sanson, Baker, Beckett and Fry. Cheltenham — At the request of the master, two desks were ordered to be supplied. * Palmerston North — With regard to the request for drill instruction, the Board regretted that no funds were available for the purpose, but suggested that the applicant (Miss Dillon) apply to the Schools Committee, and ask them to make what arrangements they deemed advisable. Aratika — Resolved, to grant £ for H, up to to for a shelter shed. Hunterville — The request of Mr lusoll for additions to residence was acceded to on the conditions named by him. Halcombe — Resolved that £ for £ up to £7 be granted for shelter shed ; also, that hooks and chair be supplied. Halcombe — Resolved, that no funds were available for the erection of a residence. Technical School. —Notice from the Education Department was received to the effect that the sum of i'2oo, " grant-in-aid to technical instruction classes," had been passed. Audits. — On the motion of Mr Fry, seconded by Mr Bridge, it was resolved, " That the gentlemen recouiuiouded to act as auditors be approved, and where no recommendation is made by a Committee that the school's accounts be Bent j to the Secretary for him to audit." Scholarships.— Ou the motion of Mr Bridge, seconded by Mr Carson, resolved " That the Executive Committee be re quested to report at the next meeting upon the scholarship regulations, with a view to the revision of the syllabus for senior scholarships." Boundaries. — Messrs Fry and Sauson reported that they had revised the boundaries of the several districts referred to tliem, and recommended that the boundaries be advertised at once. Aided Schools— Resolved, " That three months' notice from April Ist be given to aided schools, where the average is under five." Drawing.— On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr Bridge, the syllabus was adopted and it was ordered that a copy bo forwarded to all headmasters. Acting-Secretary. — Resolved, " That the Acting- Secretary be paid his salary at the increased rate from April Ist." The Board then went into committee to consider the application of Mr Spencer (assistant inspector) for an increase of salary and different arrangement of travelling allowance. Upon resuming, it was reported that it had been decided to increase Mr Spencer's salary to .£3OO per annum from April Ist, but that the Board could not see its way to increase his travelling allowance. Executive. Resolved, " That the Chairman and Messrs Bridge, Baker and Carson form the Executive for the cur? rent year." Mr Fry gave notice of motion for next meeting " That Clause 105 of tho Regulations bo struck out, and that the following be substituted, viz. : " That the i Board meets on the second Monday in each month,' and ' That the Maj r meeting be held on Mouday, May 14th, 1894." The Board then adjourned. — Chronicle.
