Serious Bush Fires.
(Post Correspondent.) Masterton, March 28. The Eketahuua correspondent of the star supplies details of the destruction caused by the fire at and about Eketa huna on Monday At Parkviile five houses were destroyed fcelouging to Messrs Wallace, Lower, Davenport and Lowe. The cowsheds, outbuildings and haystacks were also destroyed, besides pigs and fowls. At Eketahuna, Mr C Goddard's house and the public pound were destroyed, besides numerous small outbuildings. A large bridge on the Alfredton road succumbed on Tuesday morning Mr M. Sheehyn lost a cottage, his sheep yards, dip. hay, sheds, and about 400 sheep. Ai Wi Wika, Mr F C. Turner lost 300 sheep Mr Saundersou's newly erected shed, filled with hay, was also destroyed. At oue tiuiß the whole of Eketahuna was iv danger, but the efforts of the residents saved most of the build ings which caught. Sevsral settlers at Parkville had narrow escapes from losing their lives, and were blinded with smoke. The constable who is making enquiries into the fire at Mauriceville has nut yet returned. The damage, however is known to be enormous.
