The Weather.

Heavy and refreshing showers of rain fell yesterday and throughout last night. This has been looked forward to with mingled feelings of hope and anxiety by the dairy tanners, especially those in the Campbelltown district, where feed was becoming scarce owing to the prolonged drought. The value of tliis rainfall may be estimated at tens of thousands of pounds. Many settlers in and around this district have been in an uneasy frame of mind lately owing to the proximity of bush fires to their dwellings, and in some instances the whole of the family have had to remain up night after night in order to prevent the sparks from igniting their buildings. Things were getting very warm in the Bunnythorpe and Fitzherbert districts on Saturday, and much anxiety was being felt, as hundreds cf acres of grass were being destroyed, fences burned down, and in some instance it is feared there has been a slight loss of stock. Welcome, indeed, was the rain which fell during aturday night and yesterday, as it mil effectually prevent the further spread of these destructive fires. i,PER PBBSS ASSOCIATION,! Wellington, February 25. Steady south rain set in last night, and has continued over to-day. CnHis-TCHUBCir, Feb. 25. Rain set in last night and still continues. Dunkdin, February 25. The rain continued till mid-day today, when it cleared up. Apprehensions of a flood were being entertained.
