The Anarchist Funeral. A STORMY TIME.
(PEB PBE9B ASSOCIATION.) London. February 23, The funeral of the Anarchist Bourdin took place to-day. The hearse was wrecked, and the body would have been torn to pieces had it not been for the efforts of the police. In spite of the mandate of the authorities, friends of. the Anarchist Bourdit attempted to make a demonstration on the occasion of his funeral to-day. This was resented by n great crowd which assembled in the cenie tery and hooted, hustled, attd spat on the mourners. The police, at great hazard to themselves, protected the cortege from many ugly rushes on the part of the mob, while the mounted police with great difficulty stemmed the crowds of people wlio endeavoured to crowd round the grave. The funeral procession was met with cries of " down with Anarchy," " keep in your own country," and "no bomb business in England." The hearse was pelted with stoves, mud, and garbage. The women especially were infuriated. Subsequently a band of students smashed the windows and doors of the Autonomy Club. At the cemetery the police seized a large number of Anarchist flags and banners.
