Another Disaster in Africa.
THREE OFFICERS AND TEN MEN KILLED.
[per press association.] London, February 24. News has been received from Gambia, West Africa, that a detachment of the West Indian Regiment, accompanied by a force of blue jackets from H.M.S. Raleigh, Widgeon, and Magpie, under the command of Captain Gamble, of the Raleigh, attacked Chief Fodisolah, a noted slave dealer, near Bathurst, the capital of the col* ony. After the capture of two stockades and villages the force, while returning to their boats, was attacked on all sides. Lieutenants Herveyand Arnold, of the Raleigh, and Lieutenant Meister, of the Magpie, and ten men were killed. Six officers, including Captain Gamble and forty men were woui.ded. The native porters deserted with the ammunition of the British force, thus adding to the disaster. February 25. Lieutenant Boyle, of HiM.S. Ral eigh, is also amongst those dangerously wcuneed in the tight near Bathurst. Admiral Bedford is forming a larger expedition to drive the Fodislah into French territory, where the natives are on the look out to capture him.
