The Corbett-Mitchell Fight.

A cable message to the Australian papers, dated London, 25th January, says that the prize fight for the World's Championship between James Corbet t (the Cahformaa who defeated J. L. Sulhran about twelve months aeo) and Charles Mitchell, was brought off at the Duval Club, Jacksonville, Florida. The inten. tion of the Governor of the State to intervene was abandoned, owiDg to the decis* ion of the Supreme Court that a glove fight was not illegal. There was immense excitement over the affair, aud a large crowd from all parts of the Union assembled to witness the contest Corbett was a 6trong favourite, the odds upoa him being 10 to 4, In the third round Mitchell failed to come to time, and was counted out, and the victory awarded to Corbett, the fight having lasted niLe minnies. Immedintely afterwards* Mitchell and Corbett were arrested, but released on bail.
