The Weather.
The liot weather which has been experienced lately was followed last night by a very heavy north westerly gale, and orchards have, as a result, again suffered considerably. (PER PRESB ASSOCIATION.') New Plymouth, This Day. A heavy northerly gale has been blowing all night, and the sea was so rough outside that the Gairloch remained under she protection of the breakwater, and did not venturo to go north till this afternoon. Both the Mabiuapua (with 'Frisco mail from north,) and Takapuna from south passed by without looking near. Nklson, February 2. A heavy gale is raging, accompamed by a great rainfall. The damage must prove disastrous to crops. At one small hop garden it is estimated the damage ex ceeds £100, and as far as ascertained, all the hop gardens have a large proportion of the poles blown down. As the hops aro heavy there is little chance of saving any that are down. Fruit trees also suffered severely. Such a day has not been known here for years. Blfnheim, This Day. Phenomenal rains here for the last few days and all the rivers are in flood and the water in the lower parts of the town is knee deep.
