School Inspectors' Conference.

On the motion of Mr Hill, seconded by Mr Goodwin, a committee, consisting of Dr Anderson, Messrs Lee, Goodwin, Braik, Petrie, and Hill, was appointed to bring up recommendations on the question of uniformity of examination, the report to be the first order of the day for Friday. On the motion of Mr Wood, seconded by Mr Petrie, the conference | went into committee to consider the , various suggestions offered for radical ■ changes in the mode of examination. Mr Wood has given the following ' notice of motion : — (1) The abolition ' of the pass system in Standards 1., , IL, and IIL, the form of the ex- . aminatiou and the report to be similar ■ to that at present required for the preparatory classes. (2) The retention of the pass and class systems in Stan- * dards IV., V., and VL, with some [ modification in the direction of re- [ ducing the number of subjects in the pass group by the exclusion of geography and drawing. (3) The assessing of the value of the work in additional subjects by means of general i terms : fair, good, improved, etc., in--1 stead of in numbers.
