Artesian Water Committee.

The committee appointed to carry out the proposal to test for artesian water met last evening. Present — Viessrs Cartbew (chairmun), Bray, Bastings, and J. H. Stevens. On the motion of Mr Carthew, Mr J. H. Stevens was appointed secretary and treasurer. Mr Carthew reported having sent copies of the Stab with the report of the public meeting to the managers of the A'ew Zealand and Phoenix Inj surance Companies, Wellington. I The secretary was instructed to write to the local agents of the various insurance companies doing business in Feilding, the managars of the banks, and the Colonists' Land and Loan Corporation. Mr Carthew to write to the Postal and Eailway Departments, Wellington, for subscriptions. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Bastings, seconded by Mr Stevens, That Messrs Bray, Bastings, and Stevens wait on the Council and ask them to accede to the request contained in the resolution passed at the public meeting relative to contribut- £ for & Jowards the work. The secretary was asked to write to the Borough Council asking permission to sink for artesian water on the Manchester Square. Also, to obtain written offers, by February lOtb, from Messrs Gilbert and Smith for putting down pipes from two to three inches in diameter. Resolved, That Messrs Carthew, Bastings, and Bray canvas every resident likely to contribute.
