The Sydney Political Scandal.

OPINIONS OF THE PRESS. (PKK i'KESS ASSOCIAIOJf.) Sydney, 1 his Day. After full consideration the Cabinet has decided that the best interests of the country will be served by not accepting Mr Copeland's resignation. Commenting on the matter, the Sydney Morning Herald says it sees in this decision an instance of the lowering of the plane in public life which has been going on during past years. It points out that a charge of public misconduct ten years ago formed a gronnd for the disqualification of a Minister of the Crown. The Daily Telegraph says the incident is simply another instance of a Govern* ment flouting Parliament to its face, and that institution feebly acquiescing in its own humiliation.
