With characteristic benevolence Baron Hirsch has intimated that it is his intention to continue to distribute the stake money won by his horses amongst the English charities. This year the London hospitals benefitted to the extent of £35,444 by the benevolent spirit of the Austrian baron. Mersey (dam of Carbine and Carnage) has this season been mated with Strathmore. Carnage's lameness is said to be due to rheumatism. The colt, though a little jaded from the effects of the great battles exacted from him at Flemington last month, is said to be on the improve.
