NOTES BY 'SPORTS.
The Rangitikei Races on New Year's Day and the day following, should afford a pleasurable outing for the sporting fraternity if the weather remains fine. There are nine acceptors for the Grandstand Handicap, and the race should fall to Monte Carlo if he is not reserved for the Cup. For choice I faney — Grandstand Handicap.— Monte Carlo 1, Gun Cotton 2, Variety 3. Rangitikei Cup.— Monte Carlo 1, Cordelia 2, Musket 3. Flying.— Variety 1, King Harry 2, Pohißettia 3. We have only the nominations of both Hurdles and Hack Flat to go by, but judging from the weights and providing tliey accept, I will make a " pot shot " for— Handicap Hurdles.— Caloola 1, Oaklauds 2, Unity 3. Hack Hurdles. -Waituna 1, Respond 2, Defence 3. Hack Flat.-Kai Iwi Lady 1, The Artist 2, Tramore 8.
