Cricket News

On Saturday last the Birmingham and Union (Palmerston) clubs met on the Feilding ground and resulted in a decisive victory for the latter by 102 runs on the first innings. The second innings could not be played as rain commenced to fall in the middle of the afternoon, and at about half past three the game had to be closed. Birmingham batted first and when it came to their opponents' turn to bat the former could not handle the ball owing to the rain making it so slippery. However, the Unions would no donbt have won had the weather been fine. The losers were not so good in the field as their opponents and should go in for more prnctico in this department. The match between Palmerston and Sandon, played at Sandon on Saturday, resulted in a win for Palmerston on the first innings by 57 runs, the scores being —Palmerston, 95; Sandon, 38. Rain put a stop to further play.
